Whether you're the friend that adds strangers on Costar immediately after meeting them or usually the first to cringe at the dreaded question, ‘so, what’s your sign?’', astrology has become a topic of great interest on and offline.
For most, it comes in the form of a funny meme we have to send to our closest friends (because, let’s be honest, they can get a little too brutally honest for the masses). Or a joke we share with the “dynamic” Gemini or stubborn Taurus in our lives. That being said, it’s also a pretty serious pseudoscience that involves experts, research and countless hours pouring over individual birth charts to bring horoscopes that offer guidance and a sense of identity, shared or otherwise. In a lot of ways, this reminded us of textured hair and the many ways that the science behind it is misunderstood.
Our second original series explores the identities we root in astrology and how they can impact our relationship with hair. We invited members of our SLIQ community to share the ways they express themselves and how, if at all, an understanding of astrology can offer an accurate reference for the imagined self one puts forward. Each shoot is inspired by one of the four elements - earth, air, water and fire - and modelled by a sign from those four divisions.
