The directory has launched, 32 stylists strong and continually growing.
Other than defying the laws of gravity, half of the fun of having textured hair is being able to constantly switch up your look. It’s like having a shapeshifting superpower that means you’re ever evolving and exploring the different corners of your uniquely diverse personality.
Even so, if you're unlucky enough to not be DIY savvy like us, none of this hair-story is possible if you can't find the right stylist to go on the journey with you. At SLIQ HQ, one of our core goals is to simplify and optimise the lives of anyone with textured hair so, we did the work so you don’t have to. We have built the UK’s first (yes, it's so crazy this didn’t already exist) peer reviewed directory dedicated solely to hair stylists and hair professionals who specialise in textured hair. No more spending hours scrolling on instagram, or feeling uneasy about an upcoming appointment terrified of the dreaded ‘hey hun x’ message, or manically messaging friends to figure out your next look. Introducing the SLIQ directory, a simple tool that allows you to apply quick and easy filters to find a hairstylist that suits all your needs: location, price, and styling preference.
Here's a rundown of how the tool works. (To see a detailed view of each listing, click ‘learn more’)
These are the services provided. In many cases, the hair stylist might be extremely versatile but we have tried to focus on highlighting the top three specialties the stylist advertises on their social media platforms.
We get that having to travel hours for an appointment is not ideal. Here is an indication of the exact borough stylists are located in and/or the nearest station so you can always opt for the most convenient option.
Making sure a hairstylist is within your budget is the first step of actually booking an appointment so we have given an indication with ‘£’ signs of what you can expect. Comparing pricing from one stylist to the next is tough because expensive and affordable are entirely relative. In all cases, we ask the reviewer to give a price indication of what they paid then, using this amount, we cross check against the broader list of hairstylists that we have found to date. (Our 2 cents, always keep in mind, as these stylists tend to be independent service providers running their own business, they have to cover all the costs alone so although it would be great to pay extremely low prices, service providers need to make enough to run their business and support their livelihoods.)
The star rating is a reflection of the reviewer's overall personal experience considering all factors - from ambience and price to comparisons of what they asked for vs. what they got - measured on an ascending scale of 1 to 5. Although we always try to focus on the positives, the reviewer has full autonomy to rate this as they see fit. While stylists might find this disappointing, we believe it's important to uphold this approach as a measure of truth and trustworthiness. Even still, we want to give stylists the opportunity to improve their ranking so after 6 months we plan to reach out to another party to re-verify their experience, confirming if it was a one-off or something more consistent.
Once you’ve found someone you love, to make it easy for you to find and contact the stylist, we've linked all social accounts and personal websites using these black icons.
We hope you can make some genuine use of the directory and if you book an appointment with any of the listings send us a message using the contact form on our website, we’d love to hear about what went down ;)
